The Love Me and Wedgwood Series 2007
The Love Me Series. These are photo-etched and mono-printed images of a woman on hand coloured paper. They have a rough printed quality and are purposely inked with different intensities of colour so they are not identical: some appear ‘washed out’ and their appearance is inspired by Andy Warhol’s ‘Factory’ screen prints. Pieces of hand coloured lace are used as borders, unifying the images and giving them heightened importance. The fabric picks out colours found in the prints and links to the female image; the feminine edging echoes the edging on the fabric of the clothes the figure is wearing. The pieces are influenced and inspired by the work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The Wedgwood Series
Fragments of blue and pinky coloured prints, inspired by the ‘Wedgwood’ Blue Jasper Stoneware, have been collaged together. These pieces are on an intimate scale and contain grainy, mono printed images of a woman on hand coloured backgrounds. The collages’ pastel shades explore subtle changes in hue and tone.
